The Heeled Loafer
July 2010: WGSN predicts the loafer, updated with a blocked heel, would be a key item for AW11/12 [See CAD line drawing]
Feb 2011: The catwalk designers agree. Heeled loafers with block heels, spike heels, chunky heels, wedge heels and optional tassels (it’s a versatile style that can be adapted to many different looks) are all over the runways, including Marc by Marc Jacobs to name but one.
Spring 2011: This is when the high street reveals its collections to the fashion press, traditionally so they can plan their autumn issues and shoots in advance. Heeled loafers form a core part of every major retailer’s collection, such as this version seen at Oasis, which complements the 70s Country Girl look- a key autumn trend - perfectly. Many other versions can be seen in-store now at Topshop, New Look and LK Bennett to name just a few.
September 2011: Unwilling to give up on a good thing, catwalk designers update the heeled loafer for next Spring by various means including lightening the look with brightly patterned plaid and wooden heels, as seen at Tommy Hilfiger (SS12 New York catwalk show pictured) and spring bright colours and platform soles at Peter Som, who also shows in New York.
Spring 2012: Expect to see more heeled loafers at a high street near you.
